Bambino . The Country Life

Over the weekend we headed up to the mountains in Taichung [臺中] to eat at Bambino…  a little hidden cottage in the countryside. It was my mom, three aunts and me :D A girls’ day in Taichung! So lets backtrack a bit before we get to the good stuff….

After some shopping and breakfast and coffee [yes people in my family…. well, us ladies are ALWAYS eating…]

First we headed to a delicious little japanese sushi shop.

Sashimi & the most delicious Japanese style salad ever…

Jamaica’n me Crazy – Day 1

It only takes about 4 hrs or less to fly from Boston to Montego Bay, Jamaica :D

We found our Sandals place and we signed in and grabbed some complimentary Red Stripe while we waited for our shuttle…

The bus took around 2 hrs.. we got there later than planned [bad traffic] but were quickly escorted to our BEAUTIFUL swim-up suite with rum punches in hand :] Ahhh… we weren’t sober for the rest of the weekend :]

Here’s some of our beautiful room [you’ll get to see more of it later.. we had our own hot tub, his and her sinks, shower, private toilet… 2 plasma tvs, couch, table, etc… :D gorgeous!!!] We even had our own cell phone to call our two butlers for anything we wanted :D

All complimentary alcohol :D

We celebrated the first night at the Sundowner… supposedly the best restaurant at the resort :]

Everything was perfectly proportioned and soooo well seasoned and fresh!!!!

Some delicious wine :D

Smoked Blue Marlin – Seared with roasted Pineapple Salad and Citrus

I’ve only had smoked salmon and trout but this is just as delicious. Not fishy at all, or salty. Paired great with the pineapple :]

Spicy Codfish & Ackee – Baked in Callaloo Wraps served with Scallion Relish

So effing delicious ;D

Pumpkin-Orange Soup – Garnished with Crispy Croutons…

I ordered this :] I love pumpkin NOM! The orange was very slight and changed it a lot. It was creamy but not heavy. Devoured this in seconds.

Escoveitched Snapper Fillet – Served with Island pickled Onion & Peppers & fried Cassava Bammies

Absolutely LOVED the cassava bammies :] SOOO good… really reminded us of 年糕 Nian Gao… chewy and sooo goood…

Spicy poached Basa Fillet filled with Shrimp – Served with Rice & Peas

This was melt in your mouth AMAZING. Best dish of the night. The fish was fall apart and melt buttery tender as was the filling inside. Soooo full of flavor and deliciousness.

The two desserts tasted exactly as it sounded, heavenly. Absolutely heavenly. They were small portions so they were quickly inhaled by us fatties :] Teehee…

Caramelized Banana Pie – Served in Ginger-Nut Crust

Coconut Truffle Cake glazed with White Chocolate & Appleton Rum Sauce

[Don’t worry we ended up eating bacon/egg/cheeseburgers, fries, etc… in the middle of the night… well I did HAHAHA….]

Anguilla // Day Five / Last Day in Paradise

After an early tanning session, we headed out to Cafe Med [we needed a change in breakfast menus] at the Cuisinart Resort – another GREAT option for a place to stay in Anguilla – for some breakfast… this place is poolside, colorful, and minus the flies [ew] it was such a great way to spend breakfast – aside from our private terrace.

Anguilla // Day Four

Nothing like starting your morning off with chocolate… chocolate chip pancakes that is.

I asked for banana chocolate chip pancakes but they gave me bananas on the side…. whole bananas… haha two whole bananas [with the ends cut off?!?!?!] Eh… good for snacking on the beach later [which we did]

Anguilla // Day Two

I started the day [just like every other morning for the rest of the week] with our complimentary breakfast sent to our private terrace…

Coconut Crusted Brioche French Toast / Brown Sugar Glazed Bananas

This came with a side of caramel [which was fun to dip our bacon into] this was really quite tasty… I would’ve loved more bananas and coconut shavings on it :]

Apple Wood Smoked Chicken Hash / Poached Farm Eggs, Creole Potatoes, Chive Glacage

How to Survive the Day after Paradise…

I just got back from a week long trip to Anguilla. Absolute paradise. But what happens when you’ve gotten used to beach, 80 degree weather, delicious caribbean (heavily french influenced) food – mostly seafood and good bbq – on a daily basis…

What to do…
What to do…

Why eat beef.

The only red meat we’d had at all in Anguilla was the best steak tartar E.V.E.R. at lunch right before we went to the airport to fly back to freezing cold Boston. [but that’s another story to be told…]

So what were we dreaming of when we woke up Saturday morning? STEAK!

We quickly decided on MOOO [the Kobe might have reeled us in for the kill… Grill 23 came in at a close second]

But that’s for dinner, and the only open reservation was 8:30. So we decided on getting a nice big delicious BRUNCH.  We hopped in the shower and headed into town, BEAN-town that is.. aka Boston for you non-Masshole folk,  to get some PIZZA [that I’ve been craving like crazy] at Sonsie’s

Alas, no shrimp curry pizza awaited us [no longer on the menu, sniffle], but BRUNCH was still calling our name….. Me being me, I suddenly found myself losing my pizza craving and ordering the German Pancake. MMMM….

Black Coffee & a Peach Sangria for me… [same for him, sans coffee]

Hers:

pancake // german puffed, warm apples, raisins, cinnamon créme fraiche
