Happy Mothers Day 2014 at Cottage Wellesley

I’m behind on my Mother’s Day Post….. I took my mama to The Cottage in Wellesley for the special day…

We got there in time for the reservation but still had to wait awhile for our table… which was kind of disappointing – and annoying.

Me and my beautiful mommy…

I got her flowers delivered to the restaurant… which she loved because she loves purple roses and we both took a million pictures… this is one of my favorites… she will always be the most beautiful woman I know in my life.

We got a half bottle of champagne to celebrate the day.

Cheers to you mommy for being the most amazing woman in my life.

We said no to bread but they gave it to us anyway and it was SO GOOD.  Warm creamy butter and hot delicious fluffy bread. YAY – so bad for us since we’re both carb-o-holics.  It was kind of foccacia-y….

For appetizers we got  a grilled vegetable salad and fried eggplant fries.

DUDE.

FRIED. EGGPLANT. FRIES.

They came with a sauce that kind of tasted like a tartar sauce mixed with a thousand island dressing…. but just on it’s own it was…. light, fluffy, crisp outside and soooo soft and yummy inside – NOT OILY AT ALL.

They actually split our salad for us.  It came with avocado… like a split whole avocado between the two of us… grilled red peppers… asparagus… corn… squash… different kinds of greens… it was just beautiful… you didn’t even need the dressing to make it delicious.

This was my duck duo – which was duck leg confit and duck breast. BEAUTIFUL.  Pickled Cabbage and mandarin slices.

Mama got the sweet potato crusted cod with Potatoes and corn…. also completely amazing.

When we got home I made us Watermelon Margaritas with just Fresh Watermelon and Patron in my vitamix. YAYYYYYY

 I love you Mommy

Another night at Eastern Standard…

“What you wanna do? xxx or Eastern Standard or xxx”

Eastern Standard?”

“Hehehe I already got resos there..”

“Let’s just go casual…. bar at Eastern Standard?”

“Let’s do it!”

We ended up at the Hawthrone Bar having some delicious cocktails and bubbly… a great convo with the owner and bartender… LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Island Creek Oysters

Amazing as usual. ALWAYS.

Frisee Aux Lardons

Hazelnuts, Sweetbreads, Poached Egg

SOOOO sexy

Delicious and only thing I pretty must inhaled the whole night.  Runny egg. Sweetbreads. Hazelnuts.  Bacon. Frisee. How can this be wrong at ALL?! *JOY*

Steak Tartare

Cornichons, Baquette

According to W a TOTAL “Cougar Food” And while yes yes yes I loveeeeee tartare, as you all REALLY WELL KNOW… this was meh. Still can’t help but giggle about how it’s a “Cougar” food… :]

Frites

Yummy as usual :]  Altho W told me that it was some sort of fries that all the restaurants get… boo way to be a Chef and blow the cover, yummy nonetheless :] NOM

Pan Seared Hudson Valley Foie Gras
Caramelized Pear, Pomegranate

HUUUUUUGE sexy lobe of Foie Gras on yummy toasted fluffy toasted brioche!!!  It was good until it got cold… delicious nonetheless.. still love the stuff, it was HUUUUGE tho

All W wanted [yep my fatass wanted everything else]:

Linguine & Clams

Oregano, Chili Flake, Parmesan

I had some, it was great. Smallest portion of Pasta I’ve ever seen in Boston, no seriously, but good :] MMM creamy with a hint of heat! I love carbs!!!

Daily Offal: Duck Heart & Leg Cassoulet

W isn’t a fan of hearts or beans so I took a nibble. Def a heart.  Took a bite of the beans.  Not a fan. Sigh.  But the chef gave it to us complimentary – totally awesome of them :] Way for W to throw the “I’m in the business line” :] TEE-HEE…

And like I said, we ended the night just a short distance down the block at Hawthrone for drinks and chit chat… and I just HAD to take this pic

Little baby hand with fake tattoos in big hand with real tattoos..

TEE HEE

Sel De La Terre: Wine Tuesday – “Rhône Valley”

Once again, Wine Tuesday is here… I love tuesdays :D

I had meetings out in Billericca today so I just went straight to Natick afterwards… did some shopping…. possibly a lot… I had a long list of things to get from Sephora.. and then, of course, stopped by Sweet Factory :] Half hour early so I sat down at my regular table in SDLT and got a drink while I waited for my date

Peche Royale

Champagne with some yummy peach… slightly sweet and definitely opened up my appetite for the rest of the night.

Finally my date got here, and so did the rest of the dinner guests… I think the hostess said 21+ people tonight!!!!.. woooo.. of COURSE I had interesting dinner neighbors, AGAIN…. they were kinda snotty and spoke French and acted like they knew everything already that  recognized some familiar faces as well…

The Menu of the night…. YUM YUM

* First Course *

2010 CHÂTEAU L’EMITAGE, COSTIÈRES DE NÎMES BLANC, LANGUEDOC, FRANCE
Fig Chutney with Aged Gouda, Basil and Crostini

The white wine was light and crisp and I absolutely LOVED it!!!!

The original menu was supposed to be a Tomato Confit so I was slightly disappointed that it changed it to fig.. altho still VERY delicious. Some greens, pickled cauliflower… pinenuts… fig chutney… crostini.. and then delicious sauce… savory.. which balanced perfectly with the DELICIOUS aged Gouda.. I’m so used to a hard crunchy gouda… I forgot how amazing non-fridged perfectly fresh Gouda was <3 Aged to PERFECTION… which reminds me I need to restock on my cheese…

* Second Course *

2010 JABOULET, “PARALLÈLE 45”, ROSÉ, CÔTES-DU-RHÔNE, FRANCE
Étuve of Halibut with Pearl Barley and Dijon Mustard Vinaigrette

I’m not a huge fan of Roses anymore…  I used to be when I was younger and just getting into wine… now I want my white or red… altho I do tend to enjoy rose champagnes :]  ANYWAYS… was told that this was one of the few Roses from the region [methinks, not 100% sure… I was a few glasses in by now] This was pretty tasty tho :]

The halibut had a tart smell to it.. and was sooo tender.. sooo flakey and delicious.  A nice delicious slippery skin on the side and atop a nice creamy but firm pearl barley “risotto”… with some carrots in it – DELISH!!  I loved the bit of herbs on top.. added to the texture of the fish.. PERFECTLY cooked!!!!

* Main Course *

2009  LA FERME DU MONT, “PREMIÈR CÔTE”, CÔTES-DU-RHÔNE, FRANCE
Roasted Duck Leg with Celery Root , Potatoes Anna and Cherry Gastrique

Very very nice French red… I tend to not lik French reds.. I find them too earthy… but I always seem to like Rhone region reds… this was delicious… delicate yet robust at the same time… totally enjoyed it… not too heavy.. MMM… paired great with the duck

The duck… oh my, the duck. Methinks the greens was a nice swiss chard… delicious potatoes, thinly sliced and stacked atop each other.. the celery root puree was delicious but I wanted a lot more… very potato like… and then duck OH the duck – the skin was yummy [could’ve been crisper] but just the right amount of fat…. very meaty and just perfectly cooked.. I had some bad roast duck last night from chinatown so this made me so so happy

* Side Order * of Sautéed Spinach with Parmesan

Nicely wilted, not overly so with a nice light bit of parm on top… wished it was garlicky but this was perfectly cooked MMM.. I hate when spinach gets too mushy….

* Cheese Course *

2009 LES GRAND BOIS, “CUVÉE LES  TROIS SOEURS”, CÔTES-DU-RHÔNE, FRANCE
Fromage d’Affinois, France

This wine was definitely a lot heavier and more to it than the last red, so this may have been a least favorite out of the bunch, BUT….. this paired great with the cheese…

The cheese was brie like – light cow’s milk… very delicious.

Dessert

So the dessert was supposed to be…
Fondant Cake with Honey Fromage Blanc and Vanilla Ice Cream

WHICH ended up looking kinda meh compared to what I got served.. for some reason this was placed in front of me….:

“Grand Dessert”Warm Chocolate Fondant Cake
Vanilla Ice Cream
Berry Ice Cream
Guava Sorbet
Meyer Lemon Pudding Cake
Vanilla Creme Brulee
& the BEST Sugared Honey Lavender Beignets with Orange Blossom Anglaise

there was also thi delicious jelly sort of  thing with Passionfruit and coconut… SOOOOO amazing!!!

I shoved the whole plate down my throat.. AMAZINZG… the beignets were to DIE for.. the creme brulee.. OMG.. the guava sorbet… everything was just sooooo delicious.. not too sweet and just a great combo – I have been to SDLT SOOO many times and NEVER saw this tasting of desserts.. must be fairly new but DEFINITELY order this next time you go, hell just go and order THIS!

Til next Tuesday… :]

Late Night at Noche

I haven’t participated in Restaurant week in years… and I also have no idea why Noche started sending me emails,  but I caught a glimpse of their restaurant menu and was intrigued…. I think it was the churros and the duck leg tostada… not to mention they have a pretty cool drink menu.

We had late reservations for 10 [they take orders until 11pm] and the bar is open til… 1:30am I believe…

We got seated in a corner next to a table of drunk white people [somehow their wine top ended up flying over to our side and under my feet hahaha…] the girls were clearly drunk… there was talk of more drinking and her being able to handle 5 Guinesses… #classy – all in good fun :]

I spy with my naked eye.. a smilie face

Horrible cardboard bread. This is me squeezing it really hard between my fingers. Seriously…

Cardamom Pear Martini

double cross vodka, belle de brillet, cardamom, lemon juice, lemon bitters

I was not a fan… it was too sweet and tasted like an apple martini. NO cardamom taste at all :[ Boo….

Black Truffle Martini

double cross vodka, splash of dry vermouth, black truffle&feta cheese stuffed olive

The olive was delicious. SO truffly. But the drink was meh. We ended up sending my pear martini back and we got a bottle of bubbly :D

Ancho Chili Rubbed Duck Leg Tostada

Shaved lettuce and green mango, guava bbq

The duck was super cooked down and kind of a mushy texture. The tortilla got soggy from the duck.. didn’t really taste guava in the bbq tho.. the lettuce, mango tomato on top made it more refreshing. It was teeny tiny though.

Chorizo and Manchego Stuffed Native Razor Clams

Grilled sour orange, shaved beet and toasted almond salad

I was between this and the scallop ceviche. We decided to not play it safe and get something a bit more “daring”… it was really heavy for razor clams. The clam itself was cooked well and delicious.. I wasn’t that into the cheese and chorizo mess on top. I like my seafood simple.

Half Lobster and Littleneck Clam Roast

New potatoes and salsa verde, spicy tomato relish

Can you believe this is an entree? SO tiny… The sauce wasn’t spicy at all :[ Sad…  and there was only two clams and lobster was half of a tiny tail and a little claw and a quartered red potato. Lame. So hungry. Totally lacked seasoning…

Ropa Vieja

Slow braised Cuban beef brisket, mashed mofungo

This wasn’t bad… super tender [also to the point of mushy] and definitely heavily seasoned… not much meat but there was a lot of mofungo [fried mashed plantain] The heavy flavored beef and the mofungo balanced each other out when eaten together.. the mofungo was kind of bland and potato-y.

We were gonna order one of each dessert, but the “torte” was just some chocolate cake and looked kind of lame so we changed it to two orders of churros. Best part of the night!!!

Cinnamon and Sugar Dusted Churros

Dulce de Leche Caramel

They were undercooked and kind of gooey in the middle. Cinnamon-y caramel bliss. These were piping hot and very yummy.

We were heading over to a party at Liberty Hotel but ended up just grabbing a drink, er, bottle of wine next door at 28 Degrees because of carfail. We ended up drinking the whole thing in like 20 minutes because AAA arrived to jumpstart the car… We were both starving and wanted pizza…. but for some reason why didn’t eat aything

Noche is a fun place for bar snacks and drinks, food – not so much, if you’re looking or a full meal you’ll leave unsatisfied and hungry.

It’s all about the Bone Marrow….

Anyone who’s a foodie in Boston knows that THE place to go for Bone Marrow is Eastern Standard. [Not to mention it’s a place to be seen ;] hehe] Dinner goes til midnight and then there’s a late night menu! I didn’t get home from the City to Boston til about 9 so where else to go but E.S. :]

Lately I’ve been going all out with wine pairings, so it was decided that my date and I would just chill and order a bottle or two of some good wine to enjoy with our food. We ordered a bottle of Riesling and two glasses of champagne to start.

We started off with a shellfish platter. We were between oysters and clams… and then the hankering for shrimp cocktail and ceviche came in…. so… why not go for the whole chalupa? I’m greedy, I want my cake and to eat it too ;D

E.S. Shallfish Platter

East and West Coast Oystesr, Clams, Alaskan Crab Legs, HUUUUGE Shrimp Cocktail, 1/2 Lobster and Ceviche

Everything was soooo delicious. Ever since I was introduced to raw clams 3 or 4 years ago I’ve always preferred them over raw oysters. We covered the cold platter with tons of tabasco [yum yum yum] and I was SUCH a fan of the ceviche!!!! SOOOOOO GOOOD and tender :] Just tart enough and with the added spice it was FANTASMIC!
