And so I sit here…

It’s 3:02AM EST time and I’m sitting here watching tv marathons and movies on iTunes and Netflix.  I just finished off a bowl of homemade nachos and guacamole and I’m about to go warm up some more spicy pulled pork I made earlier.  Has this become my life?  This could be the wine talking, or the wandering mind thinking… but this is definitely not where I thought I would be… a year ago, two, three, five, ten? What has happened?

It’s funny how things work. Weight gain made me sad. But I gained weight cuz I’ve been happy. But the weight gain makes me not want to move… so while I eat less, I move less. I’m still not happy with my body. But that could just be my eating disorder talking.  Always in recovery, never fully recovered.

You guys have been with me through so many ups and downs and yet you remain loyal.  So much gratitude.  Love, lust, heartbreaks. Breakdowns and highs. Parties and mournings.

The past year I have been basically mostly living in Taiwan and I’ve forgotten my love for cooking, almost.  I stopped caring a lot about things I used to be so passionate about and I have no real explanation for it… but it’s recently sparked up again.

I cooked duck the other day. And today I had a pulled pork burrito/taco night with pomegranate guacamole, spicy mango pico de gallo with roasted garlic and corn and an extremely spicy salsa verde… along with some yummy gooey blue corn chip nachos.  I started to feel alive again.  I started a cooking idea journal/notebook again…. mainly b/c I was planning to cook for C on his birthday… and while things got in the way, I still got MAD IDEAS to play on.

SO…. I have ideas of doing supper parties.  [And have talked with a chef friend or two about doing pop ups] – I want to, once I move out, host supper/dinner parties, first once a month, and then possibly once a week.  People can BYOB and tell me their diets…. or just leave it up to me.  Hopefully soon after team, up with chefs and cool wine people.

I have so many ambitions and ideas… I want to write, I want to travel, I want to cook, I want to go back to school…. and I want to film it all. I have a secret thing about wanting to be in front of a camera.

So maybe this is how this blog is evolving.  It went from food diary to healthy eating and recipes to eating out and traveling extravagantly …. and then just personal…. me finding my inner peace…. healing and now this.  My lifestyle. Ever evolving.

This blog is now: Finding the real Miss Tiffie.

Please join me in my journey.

Can you believe it’s February? 2017?

I have so many posts, “almost finished” on here…. I promise to post my New Years Eve dinner post tonight, but life has just been flying past me.

Swoooooshhhhhh….

I feel like this website needs a makeover, do-over, something.  It’s become more of a lifestyle blog than a food blog, although food still is my main love :]  But hey, the older you get, the more life gets in your way.  You grow, evolve… changes.

I’m trying this “healthy” approach to my snacking and randomly missing meals with RXBars and ProteinWorld smoothies… but hell, sometimes I just want my bag of chips to munch on.  My body doesn’t do too well with salty food, so I constantly crave it.  Ahhh, the irony.

2017 has been interesting. I was back in the States before Xmas 2016 but so much drama and blah blah blah… oh and BLAH!… Thankfully I’ve had great people to be there with me and for me [as me for them] during the times.  Love is in the air.  I love you my friends/family.

Anyways just wanna put it out there, I shall be blogging more, cooking more [hopefully]  and I hope I haven’t lost a ton of you….  especially since I’ve been back and forth from Asia and America so much – still figuring out where I wanna end up living at for a “time” or just stick with traveling everywhere :] OK… time to finish my plan for tomorrow’s menu and my NYE Dinner blog post that’s long overdue.

xo always,

I’m back bitches!!!!!!!!

Tiffie

Healthy Chinese Herbal Eats at 神農

After lunch, my little get-away, a mid-day nap and getting my hair did…. me and my mom and aunts headed off to another one of my favorite restaurants in Taichung, 神農.

Some beautiful fluffy flowers….

Some complimentary small dishes while we wait for our foods…. with some delicious medicinal tea.

Everything on the menu is medicinal and have “curing” things about them and are cooked and paired correctly to help make us healthier.

甘蔗苗 [Sugar Cane “Seedlings” directly translated] which – if I’m correct, and feel free to correct me if I’m wrong – is the tips of the Sugar Cane plants.  They are not “sweet” like the normal sugar cane or fibrous – they remind me of bamboo shoots, super tender and delicious.

Mixed Asian Mushrooms….  yes, literally those puffs that look like sponges are mushrooms. NOM!  And if you know me, I ADORE mushrooms.

Those puffs are Bear’s Head Mushroom aka Hericium.

“In China and Japan, species of Hericium are highly valued for their medicinal properties;[11] in particular, H. erinaceus is used intraditional Chinese medicine.[12] In recent decades there has been considerable research interest in the bioactive properties of this species, and several compounds isolated from H. erinaceus have biological activities, including cytotoxic effects on cancer cells, stimulatory effects on nerve growth factor synthesis,[13] antimicrobial and nematicidal activity, and antitumor activity.[14][15]

Hericium species can be purchased in dried form for use in cooking and as medicine.”

Boiled Shrimp topped with some 木耳 [Wood Ear, a fungus] and 红枣 [Red Dates].

Boiled Dumplings 水餃 – they’re so good, with 薺菜 [Shepherd’s Purse] and pork.  Simple and delicious – just how I like my everything haha.  Yep, even the dumplings are super healthy for you.

Medicinal use for 薺菜 [Shepherd’s Purse]:

“When dried and infused, it yields a tea which is still considered by herbalists one of the best specifics for stopping haemorrhages of all kinds – of the stomach, the lungs, or the uterus, and more especially bleeding from the kidneys.

Its haemostyptic properties have long been known and are said to equal those of ergot and hydrastis. During the Great War, when these were no longer obtainable in German commerce, a liquid extract of Capsella bursapastoris was used as a substitute, the liquidextract being made by exhausting the drug with boiling water. Bomelon found the herb of prompt use to arrest bleedings and flooding, when given in the form of a fluid extract, in doses of 1 to 2 spoonfuls.

Culpepper says it helps bleeding from wounds – inward or outward – and: ‘if bound to the wrists, or the soles of the feet, it helps the jaundice. The herb made into poultices, helps inflammation and St. Anthony’s fire. The juice dropped into ears, heals the pains, noise and matterings thereof. A good ointment may be made of it for all wounds, especially wounds in the head.’

It has been used in English domestic practice from early times as an astringent in diarrhoea; it was much used in decoction with milk to check active purgings in calves.

It has been employed in fresh decoction in haematuria, haemorrhoids, chronic diarrhcea and dysentery, and locally as a vulnerary in nose-bleeding, which is checked by inserting the juice on cotton-wool. It is also used as an application in rheumatic affections, and has been found curative in various uterine haemorrhages, especially those with which uterine cramp and colic are associated, and also in various passive haemorrhages from mucous surfaces.

It is a remedy of the first importance in catarrhal conditions of the bladder and ureters, also in ulcerated conditions and abscess of the bladder. It increases the flow of urine. Its use is specially indicated when there is white mucous matter voided with the urine; relief in these cases following at once.”

Fattest Country in the World ISNT the USA

As of July 2013

Apparently the US is no longer the fattest country in the world….. it’s Mexico.  70% of Mexicans are obsese. Absolutely terrifying.

Mexico has surpassed the United States as the world’s fattest nation, with 32.8% of its population now classed as obese.

This worrying figure is higher than the percentage of obese US citizens, who weigh in at 32%.

The information comes from a report by the United Nations charting obesity rates across the world.

It reveals that 70% of Mexicans are overweight and childhood obesity figures have tripled in the last decade. – Source

and I was actually surprised that the UK wasn’t in the top 5.  I have been so obsessed with “Supersize vs Superskinny” and “Secret Eaters” Shows and many more that I really thought the UK was one of the top one. I was super surprised with NZ and Aussie. AND wtf is Finland food???…… OK I’m gonna put my ideas in PINK after each one.

#1 – Mexico: They may be the world’s fattest country with a 32.8% obesity rate, but they may also have the world’s best food. (Source: United Nations)

Fried. Tortillas. Corn. Meats. Cheese. Fat. Delicious. I get it.  What I DON’T get is that I feel like Mexican food CAN be healthy. Guacamole. Fresh salsas…. WTF. Too much fried food, sour cream and margaritas I guess?!… FUCK THAT. I love margaritas. But I guess it’s like the US…. fresh food costs more than convenience food. That and too much cheese.

#2 – United States: We may not be the world’s fattest country anymore, but we may still be the best at being fat. We did turn eating food into a competition, after all. Obesity rate: 31.8%. (Source: United Nations)

Not that hard to realize. Fruit costs more than the 1$ menu at Mcdonalds… which doens’t mean I don’t like my occasional fries and nuggets but you know what I mean. It’s sad. And this makes me sad. Bad food is cheaper than healthy food.

#3 – New Zealand: The United Nations says New Zealand has an obesity rate of 26.5%. That said, it’s really hard to find a picture of anyone in New Zealand eating or looking unhealthy… (Source: United Nations)

So I had to google this.  And this is what I found….  still need a good reason…. I had a good gf who went to school in NZ and she is sexy as hell.

Yeah I have fucking hot gfs… BUT hey it might be our asian genes…. but still.. blaming obsesity on genes or junk food is just LAME.

#4 – Chile: Some of the best seafood and wine around comes from Chile, so we get it. Obesity rate: 25.1%.(Source: United Nations)

Actually not sure about this. I dated a Chilean guy who said that they weren’t into “bigger” people and it being a South American place I’d figure it wouldn’t be a problem.

#5 – Australia: When most people think of Australia, tanned beach bodies dotting the country’s coastlines come to mind, so it comes as a bit of a shocker that the nation cracks the Top 5 in world’s fattest, with an obesity rate of 24.6%. (Source: United Nations)

NO IDEA.

#6 – Canada: Canada’s 24.2% obesity rate gives North America its third country in the Top 10 in obesity.(Source: United Nations)

One word: Poutine.

#7 – United Kingdom: America’s fat gene may have been passed down from our colonial parents who have a 23% obesity rate. (Source: United Nations)

Srsly, how are they not right after or before US? All they do is eat takeout and curry and fried crap and fry ups and SHIT SHIT SHIT. Sorry.

#8 – Ireland: Slainte! Obesity rate: 23%. (Source: United Nations)

Meat and Potatoes…. and Guinness?!

#9 – Luxembourg: If you were sandwiched between the world class chefs in France, Belgium and Germany, you might be a little pudgy, too. Obesity rate: 22.1%. (Source: United Nations)

Don’t Germans just drink DAS BOOT and eat like brats?…. and Pretzels… and what saukraut? I guess that’s not healthy but I duno I feel like Euros are either starving or eating shitty greasy fatty fried food,

#10. Finland Traditional Finnish food includes fresh fish, cabbage and wild game – all relatively healthy eats. What gives? Obesity rate: 20.2%. (Source: United Nations)

HAHAHAH so wrong but I saw this forum thread about “Why are Finnish women so fat” so now I read ——— OK now all I read about on google is why are Finnish people so ugly… UHHHHHH……. so this remains another MYSTERY!!!!

Picture Overload… Thurs, Fri & Sat

Lately there’s been a burst of Vitamix on the foodie scene. I’m positively drooling over pics of fresh hummus, ice creams, sorbets and smoothies (I’m not even a smoothie person) BUT I am a HUUUUGE FRUITIE (I’m so clever with words haha) & ICE CREAM person so the thought of ice creams and sorbets just gets me giddy. EEEEE… I want one I want one I want one!!!! OH the possibilities…..

Meetings & Rain = :[ Carbo Loading = :]

I’m behind in posting and replying to comments… forgive me.. today was a hectic day again… Meetings from 830-2 and then an eye doctor appointment (which I ended up changing it to December since I’m swamped with work now) but since I’ve been w@hing so much I need to get out of the house so I’m at Starbucks right now. I managed to slurp down a bowl of barley, jujubes & adzuki during my 1pm meeting (I added extra water to it before I warmed it up so it would be nice and soupy!!!)

My chubby leg haha… my two laptops and me on a conference call…. >_<;

Venti Americano!!!

I need something in my belly so I’m eating a cup of GoLean (I always pre-bag a few baggies so I can grab them on my way out the door in a hurry!!!) I’m planning on hitting up Whole Foods after I finish up work at Starbucks to get a nice salad… it’s all cuz of Kath and her yummie salad lunch today ;]

Last nite I had a little over a glass of red wine….

15 Blackberries… :] & 1/2 of my Dark Chocolate bar :] I like my other brand better, this one has more sugar in it so it didn’t taste as dark even tho the other one is 71% and this one’s 85%. I’m weird, I like bitter baking dark chocolate that has like NO sugar in it.

A bag of Gummy Tummies Penguins (i couldn’t stop at a few… my daddy loved them too!!!)

& then a handful of these Fruit Jellies!!!

(Sammie, all your fault!!! I LOOOOOOOOOVE them, haha so bad yet soo goooood!!!)

And unpictures, I ended up finishing off my Bee’s Knees PB & about a handful of raw Walnuts. I couldn’t sleep again and ended up going to bed ridiculously late. I was exhausted but I got to FINALLY catch up with *someone* on the phone … I was gonna do some work but decided that I needed a break. So cookbooks and phone conversations (and nuts!!!) kept me company thru-out the night. My sweet tooth has been OUT of control lately. I’m not sure why and I’m kinda depressed that I’ve packed a few (I guess they’re “needed”) pounds. But I’ve packed them nonetheless. Seems to be a problem fellow bloggettes have been mentioning lately. I’ve been a lot more lax with my candy intake >_<; and not exercising as much… winter padding?!… stress?!…

I’m really excited for my WF salad tonite, it’s been awhile :] I’m going to one that I don’t usually go to for salads so I hope they have awesome options!!! I also need to pick up some baby spinach, carrots, garbanzo beans (TJ’s didn’t have no-salt ones… boo) & pb&co Mighty Maple!!!

I’ve been reading up on what to eat for my Anemia thanks to FIona… while i know I should be eating meats and stuff like that.. I’ve been eating a lot more… Vegan… with seafood… I didn’t mean to, it just happened… I still eat it all tho. (Fatty Pork Love!!! haha) ANYHOO…

I was surprised that spinach was a iron-absorption inhibitor!!!! So you have to eat it with things that’ll enhance the iron absorption :O Insane huh? OK so I love all the inhibitors… whole grains, soy, those veggies they list… red wine, coffee, tea :[ The best things for me are like… LIVER & clams, mussels, oysters… ehhh…

1o*23 Daily Munch

EDIT: OK I’ve been having severe RANDOM issues with my internet and HOPEFULLY this’ll post. Ugh, this is so tragic.

ALRIGHTI tried to sleep last nite but couldn’t so I ended up watching Food Network & eating Sour Jelly Bellys til wee hours in the morning, I woke up at 430 in the morning to Rachel Ray spending only 40$ a day……. it sucks to wake up to the sound of her saying she only spent 1.41$ on a breakfast or something.. seriously, she sucks at tipping. BUT think about it. 40$ a day… that’s like 210$ a week spent eating out. Not only are you gona get fat and artery clogged probably… you’d totally eat better (and yummier) if you put just HALF of that into fresh groceries. :D Seriously. Anyways I’m sorry if you like her but she’s so obnoxious. Her shows are slight guilty pleasure tho, sometimes I just watch it with the sound OFF!!! HAHAHAHA… they’re so random, I just hate her voice and laugh and stuff.. & I think she’s kinda a sell out (ranting enough today?) BUT…. yea she’s still winning cuz I still read her magazine and watch her shows (even tho it’s on mute) hahaha…

Food TV Girls Wise,
Giada (I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE HER!!!) FTW…!!!!
And then… Ina, Sunny & Paula :] Oo OOo & Mrs. Neely :D

MM I still haven’t eaten the gingerbread yet but I SUUUURE can smell it :] It looks moist and SUPER yummy!!! I was pretty full from my 1c of GoLean this morning.. strangely so… and just been chugging away at my BLACK COFFEE (today’s flavor is Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, mmm yummy smells!!!)

I needed my Chia fix… so I thought… BANANA and banana’s response was…

Yes LOL, until he realized I was gonna split him in half and mush half of him up in with my Chia!!!

Not visually appealing at all but it sure was tasty!!!

And of course, I need to get my guava fix as well!!!! Today’s are super sweet and fresh and YUMMY!!!! Only had half for now (3 pieces).. other half for later…

I think I need to start controlling my dessert/sweets intake. Getting pudgey there *pokes belly* Oy. I hate seeing the scale go up….. >_<;

edit @ 109pm
You know I’m really busy @ work when I’m not updating blogs every 2 seconds :]

I had the other half of my guava

This looked pretty cool, I duno what happened to my iPhone…. I’m having issues with techie stuff today.. seriously… for example I was calling my friend to leave him a vm like I do every morning… and then halfway thru, it told me that it was erasing it and I had to rerecord, NOW! *beeeep* … speechless.

Gingerbread from Sel De La Terre‘s Boulangerie

Tasty and smelled amazing!!! I love gingerbread!!!!

& 14 Strawberries… I’m so full

Is it weird that just reading this made me hungry for grains? It’s an article about types of grains…. OH OH OH… Chewy oh yummy nutty grains!!!! I daydream about wheat berries… haha HMMM, what should I make for dinner tonite. I’m in charge of dinner tonite…. my mom’s having her lunch party right now so I’m pretty sure she doesn’t want leftovers or to cook :] Simple and light I suppose. We’ll seeeee….

edit @

I kept staring at the other half of my banana and felt so sorry for it, so I ended his suffering of lacking his other half quickly and surely :]

You lived a good life, oh yellow mighty one ;]

I’m pretty sure my tea and grapes will hold me over til dinner time…

Huuuuuge bag of these larger than life badboys :] YUM!!!!

Because of that previous article I’ve been on Bob’s Red Mill website looking at Rolled Barley and Rye and all these other yummie grains.. I filled my cart and then realized that I should just WAIT til Saturday to go buy NEW grains instead of having 100000 lbs of it standing on my front porch suddenly and not knowing what to do with it. Patience is a virtue :]

1o*12 Daily Munch

I’m behind, bear with me :] Once again this is PICTURE loaded :D I’m clearing out my iPhone since it’s got like a bazillion photos on there.. so it took awhile this morning to sort thru them to find my photos from yesterday :D

Brunch @ my beloved Aquitaine Bis

(the waitress knows me now hee hee)

Buttermilk Belgian Waffle, Caramelized Bananas, Nutella

Seared Tuna Niçoise Salade

This was the most amazing salad. Fresh Tuna, Anchovies (and I tend to hate them too but they were SOO tasty) I didn’t even need my dressing because there was so much flavor!!! Spicy sundried tomatoes, potatoes, egg, capers, etc… DEEELICIOUS and soooo big (as opposed to their other dishes which tend to be on the small, perfect portion size) and took me forever to eat.

Omelette du marché d´ingredeients, Lyonnaise Potatoes and Toast

w/ Avocada (it was SO fresh I should’ve taken a picture of the innards, they were bright green still and uncooked yumminess even tho the rest was warm) & Black Forest ham!!

The fresh fruit bowl came out last today. Strange, and I’d take a picture of the bacon but they gave me WELL DONE. Who eats well done bacon? They looked kinda gross, but I like eating cancerous blackened food so :] It was ingested anyways.
z

I went off to New Hampshire to enjoy the day (and foliage hehe)

My buddy :]

Stopped off for some FUDGE samples.

Pumpkin Cheesecake, Peanut Butter Chocolate & Maple Pecan
I always LOOOOVE Maple fudges so that was obviously my favorite. The PB was a bit too sweet and the pumpkin was really yummy and pumpkin-y. Sad that my favorite one was the smallest sample. After tasting a bit of all three first I left the Maple til last, I nibbled on them for awhile.

I decided to eat a baby jack-o-lantern pumpkin. My mom and I had a bet going. She said I couldn’t, I said I could, BESIDES I bought it AMONGST all the other yummie squashes (surrounded by delicatas and butternuts and so on…)

This was surprisingly easy to cut thru with my super sharp Japanese knife :D

MMMM Innards :]

Pumpkin anatomy :D

It sure was fun gutting them and taking out the seeds!!!

I couldn’t decide whether to bake them in halves or chunks

Chunks for the win. Always easier to eat and share. AND save. This is me skinning the pumpkin 1/8s and then cutting them down some more.

Toasted the pumpkin seeds

I toyed around with ideas to toast them in, the usual s&p, maybe some truffle salt, or curry powder or maybe a sweet cinnamon blend but then decided since it was my first cherry-poppin’ time toasting pumpkin seeds I’d do them au natural.

SUCCESS!!!!! They were tasty!!!!

RAINBOW SWISS CHARD

I duno what to say about them, I just steamed them (a bit too long but they were still tasty, kinda strangely salty too…) But I had to take a million pictures cuz they were so pretty!!! I didn’t wanna eat them cuz they were too pretty to look at hahahaha…

Pumpkin chunks done.

I don’t have an up close picture but after they cooked they had weird little warts all over them *shivers* but they were SOO GOOD!!! They were toasted on the BOTTOM, I guess I could’ve flipped them but I was too hungry at this point.

Dinner layout:

Baby Bok Choy, Pumpkin Seeds, Leftover Turkey, Swiss Chard, Mung Beans w/ Hot Peppers, & PUMPKIN!!!

I LOOOVE guava. Today I had 1.5 guavas (my parents stold 1/2 of one haha) and it was soooo unnaturally but naturally sweet that I didn’t need the sour plum powder except for on a few pieces)

My awesome glass of Pinot Noir** and a PB Chocolate Brownie from Rosie’s…

I’ve been on a PB kick lately. Which I feel bad cuz my pistachio butter and almond butters have been neglected.

I was only planning on having 1/4 or 1/3 but I ate all of it watching the news :]

** Had the most AMAZING Pinot Noir last nite that I bought but I forgot to take a picture, I’ll take it later today since there’s still some left :D

* Sidenote: It’s obvious I have a huge sweet tooth. I’d just like to state that I’ve actually been trying to CUT down on sweets and UPPING even MORE healthy alternatives (I was always pretty healthy to start, which is why  I hardly ever have fast food, fried, overly salty foods, etc…) But then still overindulging once in awhile…. anyways wait this sentence isn’t making sense and I don’t feel like correcting it. ANYWAYS. For the past year my doctor and my parents (and friends) and been trying to get me to GAIN weight…. so that’s basically it. Instead of trying to LOSE, I’m trying to GAIN. I’m even limited to my amount of exercise I’m “allowed” to do :[ (My friend Sam says it’s cuz I’m too hyperactive) Even still, I only drink water, coffee, tea and some wine… (I don’t like soda and juices and I’m lactose so I’ll have a little almond milk once in awhile) and I’ll still pass on the fried foods, etc… some habits are hard to break so I figured if I ate MORE nutrient-loaded food it’d help me gain more… PLUS I love yummy raw foods anyways. I know it’s silly to say I’m FORCED to gain weight but I was 5’7″ and around 98-101lbs for awhile… so… yea, just thought you guys should know that when I occasionally post about weight. I’m between 105-108 now which makes me feel “fat” but…. you know… it’s better for me.
