扁頭原味海鮮 — Did someone say a FLAT HEAD?!… Xmas Lunch in Hsin-Chu

I finally headed out to Hsin Chu, on Christmas Day, after two weeks in Taipei to pay respects to my recently passed Grandmother, see the old house and to see more of my mom’s side of the family.

“Do you like sashimi?”
“LOVE IT!”
“Ok, I’m taking you to a place I love that just makes whatever fresh seafood they have that day….”

I thought I was gonna end up at  Japanese restaurant eating omakase… but my uncle took us to this adorable seafood restaurant 扁頭.

Bien Tou [which sounds just like FLAT HEAD!!! wooohooo, so this was a super easy restaurant name for me to remember HEE HEE]

As soon as we walk in we see a glass case of today’s fresh catches… we went to eat a little late for lunch so not too much was displayed outside.

First up was some fresh sashimi. This was literally JUST CAUGHT and FRESHLY sliced for our tasting. My uncle said it was like eating a steak and it was. SO delicious and satisfying!!!

Delicious veg with garlic and what appears to be chicken broth… so freaking tasty :D Veg in Taiwan is SO much yummier in fresher ANYWHERE and for so much cheaper than back in the states…

Delicious noodles and the freshest, melt-in-your-mouth fried chilean sea bass. The fish was soooo buttery and not fishy whatsoever. The batter was so light and not greasy at ALL.

The noodles were in a light broth flavored delicately with white pepper and scallions… slurp slurp slurp :]

I may have eaten a lot of them ;D Ok, not “may have” I kinda really did. Like freaking BUTTER~~~~

And then we really DID have steak. MOOO. I love having a bit of cow in me :D  Absolutely delicious steak. Some of them were rarer than others [hehe which I was looking out for] Just fatty enough [but not so much that I can’t chew and swallow]

Fish Head Soup….

My Bowl #1 with fish cheeks… sweet, soft, falling off the bone meat and skin from the fish head <3  It was the sort of perfect fishy-ness where you knew it was FRESH…. my aunt [luckily] got the eyeball :D

At first I thought this was Hamachi Kama, but it seemed like a whole fish?!… there was a little tail and I never got a clear answer from them on what it was.. but the WHOLE thing tasted like tender sweet collarbone :] I was the only one that actually picked a bone and sucked it dry… [let’s keep it PG peoples!!!]

The most tender, sweeeeet sweeeeet juicy grilled squid – thick and delicious!!!!… usually I just go for the tentacles but I was adoring the thick slices of the meaty part as well :D

I talked to the owner and he welcomed me to come back before I leave again so he could feed me like a queen :] He spoke really REALLY good english too :] Thanks sir, I’ll be back soon to eat more of your specialities…. ;D

Such a great and filling Christmas lunch! YUM! Ended up eating dinner super late [and having super simple one]
