Feeling Pure — Going Raw/Vegan

After much anticipation and a few years of wanting to visit the famous One Lucky Duck store sister [I buy stuff from there ALL. THE. TIME.] … last week I finally got to try out Pure Food and Wine

Before I begin – I must say that Sarma is amazing. She is gorgeous and just so inspiring. I own both her books and love her snacks from the online store. Once I bought chia seeds thru her and they were expired, she apologized and quickly sent me several bags.. what a sweetheart.

It was a super hot night… it was in the high 90s and around 700 or 730 when we got there. I was on a veg kick – and thought that refreshing raw and vegan would be PERFECT for a hot summer night meal.

We ordered some of their famous white sangria… filled with tons of fruit, like a sweet juice :]

We ordered two pitchers, but beware, they had a kick… and it didn’t kick in til a bit later – sweet sangria is so deadly ;D

In our usual style, we ordered a few of everything… :D How could we resist?

Nori Rolls of House Made Kim-Chee and Dr. Cow Creamy Tree Nut Cheese

watercress, baby bok choi, hijiki seaweed, avocado, scallions

I am in LOVE with these…  ;D Crunchy, different flavors and textures and the creamy nut cheese with some authentic spicy wasabi YUM!

They were HUGE, so flavorful and really filling – YUM! Addicted… oh yea my head is even huger…

Spring Salad of Mache, Shaved Fennel, Raspberries and Toasted Almonds

Another beautiful shot of the fresh greens… I thought those were ginger slices but it was the delicious cashew cheese – YUMMMM

Loved it but it was too heavy on the dressing for me to fully enjoy – I totally forgot to ask for dressing on the side :T Bummer.. but R totally enjoyed it all :D — another reason why he gave me all the Nori Rolls hehehehe

King Oyster Mushroom Scallops in a Lemongrass Coconut Broth

saffron chamomile cream, mustard greens, micro wasabi

Meaty and tasty.. altho on the small side – but the mushrooms really had that meaty scallop consistency, except better – I’m a shroomaholic. The broth was really good.. wish I had some good rice with it to soak it all up ;D R and I even ate some of the flowers hehehe…

Next came the MOST amazing thing of the night – at least for me – I LITERALLY was licking it clean… all of it…

Sweet Corn and Cashew Tamales with Chili Spiced Portabella

I LOOOOOOOOOOOVE tamales… I love Brian’s tamales… I’m always looking for good tamales…. HOW ARE THESE NOT COOKED?!?!?!… OMG… R was laughing at me as I picked BOTH clean and scolded him for not cleaning his wrap well enough – well score cuz more for me ;D

Zucchini, Local Hothouse and Heirloom Tomato Lasagna

basil pistachio pesto, sun-dried tomato marinara, macadamia pumpkin seed ricotta

Wowowowowow… I’ve made a version like this before.. [with my sweet potato veggie lasagna] sans cheese and cooked.. the sun dried tomatoes were like BAM! in the mouth – SO much flavor and worked/paired SO well with the faux ricotta – such fresh zucchini and tomatoes. Amazing amazing amazing :]

Spanikopita with Spinach, Almond Feta, Cucumber Yogurt

This was my second favorite dish of the night. *licks it clean* I’m a huge greek/mediterranean food fan… I love yogurt sauces, spinach and cauliflower so this was ALL extra little pluses. Licked this plate clean too … :]

Squash Blossoms Filled with Truffle Shallot Cashew Cheese

local heirloom cherry tomato, avocado, fennel caper salad, kalamata tapenade

SO tasty. I’m not a huge olive person so it was a bit salty for me, but the squash blossoms were delish – and finally not 1. fried 2. filled with goat cheese – SCORE for me, that’s so hard to find…. usually it’s one or the other or mostly both. Seriously, how is their truffled cashew cheese NOT real cheese.. tastes AMAZING and oh so creamy… *fantasizes*

AND THEN.. as full as we were — DESSSSSSSSSSSSERT time!!!!

Chocolate Cherry Lemon Tart

Absolutely AMAZING. Creamy inside, soft chocolatey outside. The chocolate cherry ice cream is TO.DIE.FOR. one gallon please :D

Altho the sake cherries were a bit too bitter/strong for me…. I wanted them to be sweet ;D Hahaha – this was the only frowny face time for me at Pure :]

Blueberry Peach Cannoli

Very very good :] R loves cannolis, as do I, but never have I ever had it this way. I always get it with chocolate chips and ricotta… and usually only from Mike’s Pastry ;D — GO BOSTON!!! The blueberry peach garnish was super tasty as well….

Strawberry Shortcake

I LOOVEEEE Strawberry Shortcake.. but usually I have it in the form of a biscuit and some ghetto overprocessed fake strawberry goo :] — ahh reminds me of college lol — but this was soooo creamy and delicious. From the subtle caramel to the thin slices of peel… yum yum yum, I actually thought the gelato was hazelnut but it was yummie nonetheless… I blame the sangria for making me unable to figure out what nut gelato it was *fail*

Lemon Cheesecake

with lemon cake, almond buckwheat granola, dried cherry sorbet and lemon thyme

This is vegan? Seriously? Most delicious and lemony cheesecake. And no lactose intolerant side effects :D and.. not sure about the nutrition but I definitely felt a ton healthier even after so many desserts :D AMAZING sorbet…

This place was just SO amazing… want want want – we didn’t expect to be so full and satisfied. You couldn’t even tell it was RAW food!!!… amazed and mesmerized.. in my drunken daze I almost bought  a 300$ dehydrator that night so I could make my own food :] Maybe tmw… but tonite I think I might get some Pure Food and Wine takeout from Chelsea Market down the street :D
