Legal’s with the Parents: Ordering off the Specials Menu

I love going out with my parents. We always have so much fun and being an only child and moving around all over the United States, I’m used to it.  Family vacations, dinners, etc.  Not hanging out with the fam all the time is just plain wrong and doesn’t feel right.  So after a long day of work.. it was time for some seafood.

Daddy started becoming a huge food picture-taker too… hahahah and taking goofy pictures of me.

We got a free Amuse Bouche from the chef.  Sun Dried Tomatoes with Bacon on Crostini with a drizzle of Balsamic Vinaigrette. Meh.

Two Buckets of Steamers!!!

CLEANED THEM OUT SO FAST

Not amused.

I got the Wild King Salmon with Spicy Sausage [Chorizo], a Corn/Black Bean Salsa on top of Butternut Squash.  It was sprinkled with scallions and was totally a Mexican wanna be dish.  It wasn’t bad but my salmon was overcooked and dry.  Everything else was delicious.

We also ordered a half a bottle of the red wine pairing to go with my dish to share with the table. I forgot what it was but it was good.

Daddy got a Herbed Flounder with a Slaw on top.

And mama got the Grilled Swordfish over Mashed Sweet Potato.

All of us got the specials of the night…

And then I saw this lady. CLASSY.

And since we ordered all specials we got the special dessert too.

YUM

The usual: Boston Cream Pie
Delicious as usual but I don’t remember it being COVERED in chocolate, just a thin film of it on top. Now it’s a bit too much.

The Special: Apple Pie Tart
It was okay.  The ice cream was good.

I also got a yummy Hot Toddy.

Specials Only from Legal Seafoods

After a delicious brunch and a day reading at the bookstore…

Before the bookstore I went to get a few dresses at Neiman Marcus for my Birthday in Vegas.. found two extra sparkly super BOMB totally SEXY dresses :]

I love baby shoes!  Baby shoes always makes me want to have a baby.. but the some annoying kid was right next to me while taking this pic…. and I changed my mind.

I bought this book as one of many W’s birthday presents :]

It. Is. AWESOME.

I got these for me :] Read thru a lot of the Hot Dog book, SO good. GET THEM

Boston Mag‘s Best Burgers issue. GO CRAIGIE <3 <3

After a while I headed across the street to get some grub at Legal’s..

We ordered off the Specials Menu, COMPLETELY off of it, except for the Steamers which is a given and a ust-have.

Watermelon, Poached Shrimp, Whipped Goat Cheese and Basil – there was some Balsamic-y sauce on the side which was WAY too sweet.  MEH.

Steamers with Butter

AND THEN we were surprised with a free appetizer from the Chef!!!… Fried Eggplant Parmesan on Crostini. Delicious.

Tempura Flounder on Fried Rice and Pickled Veggies

The Wine that was recommended with my Salmon Dinner… a bit on the sweet side but good..

Cajun Wild King  Salmon on Coconut Rice, Blanched Spinach and Mango/Pineapple Salsa

Absolutely delish!  The salmon was cooked to a perfect medium!  I hate things like rare/med-rare fish [on purpose or not].. like tuna or salmon, gross. But this was PERFECT. Just cooked thru but still suppppper tender, not fishy and just DELISH!

The coconut rice was SO good.. definitely cooked with some coconut milk and toasted coconut. YUM.

I ended the night watching movies downstairs eating snacks :]

Oysters + Clam Chowdah + Johnny Cupcakes

Tuesday was a busy day for W and the Clio dinner.. I worked and ran some errands and did a lot of outfit changing hahaha… I also ended up ordering half of the room service menu for dinner.. pizza, burger, fries, chocolate pudding cake, ice cream, the works. FAT. It was SOOOO GOOD though.

Like, I wore this outfit to go to Shaw’s….

And this one after.. hahaha cuz it was a little chilly.  I’m such a little fashion whore.  Cool part of the day was when I got asked to model.

W was supposed to leave W morning but ended up staying a day :] YAY!  So I took the day off so we could spend the day together.  We slept in with blackout curtains but our bellies got the best of us and we needed to eat.  The SUN was finally back out so we also decided to wander around Boston…

We ended up being too hungry to NOT eat first so before we even got outside we grabbed a quick bite at Legal Seafood’s in Pru.  It’s not one of my fav Legal’s locals.  I like the one in Copley better [it's also less touristy]… and I think the Framingham one, minus the whole alcohol issue, and by the Wharf is the best.  *shrug*  OH, I dislike the Chestnut Hill one the most. WORST SERVICE AND SANGRIA EVER.

Anyways.  A dozen oysters.  All WiAnnos.  SOOO GOOD.

We got His and Her Clam Chowdahs.. I ordered first and I got a cup, he got a bowl. DAMMIT  I had Chowdah envy :[ I did it his way and added tabasco sauce to it, SOOO GOOD... Except he added more salt and I added more pepper.  What can I say opposites attract :] We’re so similar and so different. I love it.

He ended up getting a burger. WOMP. Overcooked and just looked meh.  But then again it’s a BURGER at Legal Seafoods.  I scolded him – he counteracted with how Saltwater has great burgers. HO HUM. I’ll have to get one when I’m back up in Detroit soon.

I got a bucket of steamers.  They were tiny so there were a lot.  W said it was a New England thing and actually had no idea what I was talking about.  Steamed Steamers aren’t really his thing, but he did try one – minus the little penis head haha.. probably cuz I told him to pull off the foreskin LOL my B – He actually thought of CLEVELAND STEAMERS – Don’t worry I gave him one later. HAHAHA. JK. Maybe. HELLO!!! SFW FOOD BLOG HERE!

The meal was ridic expensive and even after W didn’t eat his burger and his waitress was all like, “I’m sorry I’ll take something off” she took freaking 4$ OFF WTF!? LAME.  Tax was more.

Anyways.  At least their mojito of the day was good.  We walked around Newbury and I got a shirt at Johnny Cupcakes <3 JOY.

Yep.  Dinner was Cheesecake Factory.  Don’t judge. It was derricious!

I finally didn’t order the Cioppino at Legal’s…

Family weekend so we’re headed to Legal’s!

I slipped on my Chloe’s… they’re old but still lovely and look new…

And first we headed to Barnes and Nobles… it’s right by the restaurant and we had a 7pm reservation.  BTW I love pork fat.

This book was so cute, almost bought it

Ended up buying these two <3

And then headed next door to Petsmart to buy dogfood for Didi :]

This pic is for W

SO CUTE

AND THEN off to Legal Seafood’s… FINALLY cuz I was starving.. I only had a spicy chicken wrap all day for lunch so I NEEDED FOOD!!

We started off with the special appetizer & two tubs of steamers!!! YEP TWO…no pics because they were devoured immediately… and I have too many pictures of steamers… hahaha… OOOOO but excitment!!! The crabs are in…. softshelled that is…

Tempura Fried Softshell Crab
Togarashi Aioli, Cucumber-Carrot Slaw, Sesame

Spicy!!! It was small but deeeeelightful :] I inhaled the pickled cuc and carrots too, SO GOOD

Daddy’s Lemon Caper Grey Sole
Lemon Beurre Blanc with Steamed Spinach and Green Beans

Daddy LOOOOOOOVED it!!!  And licked the plate clean!  He usually sticks to salmon so YAY for him changing things up!

Mommy’s Grilled Hake and Shrimp
Shrimp, Charred Tomato-Scallion Sauce, Garlic Green Beans and Seaweed Salad

We ended up trading because she loooooves softshell crab!  The green beans were perfectly done, I hate soggy overcooked green beans, these still had a nice snap to them.. and while the shrimp and hake were delish and cooked perfectly, so tender, I wish there was less sauce, or preferably on the side.  Wasn’t a HUUUGE fan of it.

And yes I didn’t get cioppino…. hahaha which I get like 99% of the time….

My Softshell Crab Provencal
Mushrooms, Scallions, Grape Tomatoes, Garlic White-Wine Sauce

SOOO GOOD.  I got steamed broccoli on the side and the huuuuge crab was on a bed of steamed spinach. SOOO GOOD, the sauce was amazing and I LOOOVE cooked grape tomatoes… warm and pop pop pop in your mouth.  But like I said, mommy and I traded – she LOOOOVED it. DE-VOURED.

And I got the wine pairing to go with it… a Quadri Pinot Grigio, delle Venezie IGT, Italy, 2010 which was tasty.

Got this for W and I :]

And instead of getting dessert at Legal’s.. I stopped by Whole Foods and got dessert there!

Most amazing HUUUUUGE cream puff <3 JOY

Cut Off – Only in Bumf*ckville

The day started like any other. Off to meetings, feeling like a cool kid with my hedgehog sweater…

I’m so cool it HURTS!

A venti ice black coffee + Turkey & Swiss sammy from Starbucks for lunch.. a quickie one.. I had to run some errands for my mom, do some grocery shopping…… and then MORE meetings and work… *sigh*

Around 3 I was starving again so I warmed up a bowl of corn, egg and scallion soup from the other night – TONS of white pepper of course :] MMMMMM spicy and hot and burns so good going down.

CORN POOP!

It started snowing around noonish so apparently this meant “storm” but it’s only considered a storm since this year was severely lacking IN snow. Sigh. This was NOTHING.

Work work work, I need a break.  Thankfully M saved me from Bumf*ckville…

We’re on a mission….. and I love missions.  M headed over to pick me up for oysters and bubbles, again, and this time we were on a mission to Legals.  A dozen Raw Oysters and a bottle of Champagne ordered….

We also got a plate of Mussels in a creamy white wine sauce, super garlicky, and of course, my favorite, a bucket of Steamers.  As we finished up out bottle of bubbles we ordered another bottle and was about to order crab cakes and a few entrees, we were told we were cut off. One bottle an hour. Wait what?  We’ve been there for almost 2.  So the manager comes over and stutters and mutters and doesn’t know what he’s saying. Back and forth from one glass per person per hour to two, and then back to no more bottles and if we got another glass of wine we were done for the night. Seriously?! All we had was our appetizers and we were cut off and told to drink water. NOT happy. So we got the check and left. At least they comped our steamers….

Manager said it was Framingham laws but I’ve never gotten cut off anywhere BUT here in the area. SO lame.

Next stop?  It wasn’t even 8 yet and we were already cut off.  We were gonna head to British Beer but then decided on Met Bar since I needed their Hummus.

We ordered a glass of white wine each…. and started to dig in….

They even gave us another basket of fluffy hot pita bread – SO good.. we also got Met Fries with Truffle Mayo and Aioli, Spicy Calamari, Guacamole and Chips, a pitcher of Sangria [too sweet and tasted just like watered down juice] and Korean BBQ Chicken Tacos

Pretty but not tasty.  SO not KOREAN.  Or very taco like either. Or BBQ… there was something WAY too sweet in it.. almost floral and fruity, weird, not a fan.   The wraps/shells were meh.  They closed the kitchen at 9 and last call for drinks was at 930. SERIOUSLY?! At least they left us with some harsh cocktails during alcohol last call.. UGH, closing early?!?! On a Wednesday night?!?!  All cause of the nonexistent snowstorm going on…. it was literally just a light slush.  No bueno.

CUT OFF AGAIN!

We ended up at a Cigar bar near my house that actually stays open til midnight on the weekdays.  “Now you have a good place to come to in Bumf*ckville” :] Some good booze, think scotch and in a very chill environment we chatted and watched fights on the teevee. CAULIFLOWER EARS *ew* hahahaha…. but yes, midnight rolled around and once again. CUT OFF :[

The night ended with me running around in the snow outside my house.. foot prints everywhere HAHAHAHA....

I'm weird :]

Acadia ME: Fish House Grill – The Last Dinner

Since we didn’t really make it out much in Acadia the day before due to the excessive heat, we woke up bright and early to get a good start on the day while it was still “cool”… My parents got up super super early, got breakfast and brought back some blueberry pancakes for me from Jeannie’s Breakfast… also some eggs, home fries/potatoes and toast.. MMMMM….

SOOOO much fresh blueberries in the pancakes, they were freaking AMAZING!!

And then offfffffff to the national park again…

Sand Beach

Didi’s first time at the beach, she was freaking out at the waves.. poor thing…

I got splashed :[ The water was freeeeeezing and apparently doesn't get above like 50 degrees or something

Thundering Hole

It was pretty calm at first and apparently it was all day but it picked up once we got there.. and it was BOOMING.. Didi freaked out and crawled onto my back LOL

I eatz your head

Bar Harbor Cellars / Winery @ Sweet Pea Farm

We bought some wine, wine tasted and also bought some snacks.. and then headed back to the hotel to chill by the pool...

White Summer Sangria

Spiced Passion Mojito

And I even hot tubbed a bit.. good thing it was in the shady area of the hotel pool area so it was actually super nice and relaxing...

And then back downtown for dinner...

Didi meat fake leopard print doggie

We decided to not eat at our original location and go by the pier to eat..

Beautiful view form our table

We decided on Fish House Grill so we could eat with a nice view and breeze.. and OMG it got SUPER breezy and chilly by the water..

The menu was HUUUUUGE... took forever to choose what to eat..

I got a half bottle of bubbly for meself :D

Clam Chowdahhhhh

Super thick, creamy, delicious - definitely needed more clams though.. I loveeeeee it when it's chockful of clams and less potatoes :] But it was SO good…

1 lb Steamers – thankfully NOT salty

And…. what’s this hiding under garlic bread?!

1 lb Mussels in White Wine Garlic Butter Sauce

TIMEEEEEE TO EAT!!!!

OOOO and Corn Bread too, the most AMAZING corn bread. *obsessed*

Mommy’s Pan Fried Flounder

Flounder dusted with Seasoned Bread Crumbs and some dill Sauce.. served with Tropical Salsa, corn and Rice

Daddy’s Grilled Atlantic Salmon

Served with Tropical Salsa, Corn and Rice

And then me being the fatass that I am… I ordered a mega entree…

My Seafood Grill

2 lobster claws, steamers, mussels, stone crab, peel n eat shrimp, crab legs and i asked for extra corn instead of potatoes… AND added on a lobster tail

YEP. I couldn’t choose what I wanted.. so I just got it all.. OMG the shrimp was SOOO GOOD… steamed and seasoned with Butter and Old Bay Seasoning…  I ate it ALL! AND ordered dessert…

Blueberry Crisp

It was mushy and gross and overly buttery so I didn’t eat it.. hahaha…

But I did take ridiculous pictures

More homemade gelato…

1 scoop maple walnut – with WHOLE walnuts YUM; and 1 scoop banana Peanut Butter… tons of chunks of pb and reese’s :D

BED TIME!!! Didi and her new moose friend!!!

Acadia ME: Stewman’s Lobster Pound

As soon as we got to our resort I changed my outfit – 5 hour trip thru super ghetto Maine was exhausting… especially since we planned our trip during the hottest heatwave this summer.. .yikes!!!! I planned on eating ALL lobster and seafood this entire trip, so no trip to Acadia/Bar Harbor ME would be complete without heading to Stewman’s Lobster Pound.  Since we brought Didi with us on the trip we had to eat at dog-friendly places!!  There are two in Bar Harbor area, one downtown and one in the hotel we stayed at… so obviously we just, lazily, went to the one in our hotel :]

Stewman’s Lobster Pound @ Bar Harbor Regency

Raspberry Mojito

My daddy ordered wine and got it in a plastic cup as well.. teehee, ghetto fabulous!!!! It was quite delicious tho and not too sweet!! MMM I love mojitos :]

Steamers

These were SOOOOOO salty.. they were steamed/boiled IN sea water so I was dying of salt overload. As were the mussels….

Mussels

Such a shame.. I have such bad kidneys for salt overload and I bloat like crazy so I had to avoid these.. they weren’t just salty, they were like SALT LICKS!!!! Reminded me of the “spicy pickles” from the other day at Tamarind Bay LOL… My parents ended up eating them…

Stone Crabs

But my stone crabs were delicious!!! So expensive though.. it was like 3$ a piece… geez.. makes me miss Miami like SUPER crazy tho… :]  Need to take a trip there asap – got it girls?!?!?!… I spy another All Girls Trip ASAP in the near future… :]

We decided to get the biggest lobsters they had… 3.5lbs YUM

Look how excited I am, and how tired I look from all the travel.. hahaha.. and yes I wore my bib :] I remember as a kid I would NEVER for fear of looking stupid… but now, I wear my bib with pride!!!! :D

My cute little, er, HUGE lobster :D

It was a girl, which is why it was so big, and it was FILLED with roe…

I hurt myself tho eating the lobster :[ I got a HUUUUGE cut on my finger and it kept bleeeeeeding - sigh... I'm so hazardous to my own health.. hahaha.. it's actually sort of funny..

Daddy's HUUUUGE Lobster

My parents are so cute :D

Daddy was so excited with his huge claw

After dinner, we got some coffee and homemade blueberry pie... Lobster, Ice Cream and Blueberries are the theme of Maine trips :] Constantly.. and booze always is SO… you know ;D

It was really good…. delicious crust.. great filling, not too sweet and yummy delicious vanilla ice cream!!!

I told mommy to feed daddy and she did – OMG my parents are so freaking cute!

Even though I could barely finish my pie… there was still room, always is, for another drink… a nice boozey Blueberry Pink Lemonade – I HAD to try it since our waiter said it was the most popular….

Didi had her fill of lobster too :]

It got a little chilly after dinner so I changed into a hoodie and a long sleeve before we headed out downtown to eat ice cream and shop around…

We got there pretty late so a lot of stores were closing…. it WAS a Thursday night so it wasn’t too crazy out

Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium

Goose Island Beer Dinner

The day after Meatopia I was lucky enough to visit Resto again for their “American Beer Dinner”: Goose Island Beer Dinner

Goose Island Brewmaster Greg Hall
Executive Chef Bobby Hellen
Resto, 7pm, July 12 2010

First Course:

Cherrystone Clams, Guanciale and Basil

These were HUGE and just SO delicious. The most amazing baconiness from the Guanciale… and the touch of basil… YUM. These were devoured SO freaking fast, gone in a blink of an eye. I only got two :[ I was too busy helping pass out the food that I was left with practically none :[ Haha.. bitter.

__________

Guanciale (Italian pronunciation: [ɡwanˈtʃaːle]) is an unsmoked Italian bacon prepared with pig‘s jowl or cheeks. Its name is derived from guanciaItalian for cheek. Guanciale is similar to the jowl bacon of the United States.

Pork cheek is rubbed with salt, ground black pepper or red pepper and cured for three weeks. Its flavor is stronger than other pork products, such as pancetta, and its texture is more delicate.

Guanciale is traditionally used in dishes like pasta all’amatriciana and spaghetti alla carbonara. It is a delicacy of central Italy, particularly Umbria and Lazio.

Seafood and Chocolate Covered Caramel Apples

My eats were kinda lame today. I haven’t been feeling well so haven’t really been eating much…

I had a guava between my two doctor appointments. I was planning on going to Porter Sq. for some yummie Japanese eats (well mainly takoyaki aka octopus balls!!!!!) but my appointments ran late and later so I ended up at Legal Seafood’s.. which was near my last doctor appointment…

Steamers. I only had about out 7 or 8 and even spit a couple out cuz they were SOOO sandy… our waitress was soooooo nice :D She took them off the bill and was just super nice to us in general from start to finish. IN FACT, ALL of the ppl today were nice. From when I went to get seats, even the host was talking to me and making conversation the whole time.

My cioppino on the other hand was outstanding!!! Huge clams and mussels, large chunks of fish… really really delicious and fresh!!! A lot more seafood than the last time I got it :D I put lots of tabasco in, too, to make it spicy!!! I wish there was more calamari tho, and another lobster claw or a lobster tail would’ve been fanTASMIC!!!

As a treat/dessert late tonite (since I was hungry) and since my mommy surprised me with some of my favorite Caramel Apples (from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory) I had a Monster Apple :D It took me FOREVER to eat it tho… watched Day of the Dead while I did. It was a pretty fun movie, the zombies in it are like smart, retain some of their old human characteristics and super fast :D Plus Nick Cannon’s hot :D HAHA…

Small chunks = easier eating and takes me longer to finish it. This lasted me almost a good hour during the movie!!!

Dior loves my blankie!!! I think more than she loves hers.. (altho she can’t sleep at night without her pink ballet blankie!!! hehehe)

Tomorrow I’m off to get groceries… Russo’s <3 a quick trip to Costco for WANTED & the new Britney cd (I know I’m behind!) and I owe a friend of mine a special Tiffie-cooked Birthday (well LATE Birthday) dinner and WALL-E :D Hopefully all the plans will go thru, woot!

I made myself feel better with a caramel apple

The Butterfinger was pretty but the candy was stale and it just didn't taste good together with the white chocolate & caramel so I didn't eat it...

Grape Lollipop

Most of 2 Starbucks Cookies.. the PB Cup & Sugar… & a VENTI Americano

I bought the new Boston magazine and 3 Vegan Cookbooks :] Including La Dolce Vegan & Candle Cafe Cookbook

ANYWAYS, onto the HIGHLIGHT cooking of the weekend was SUNDAY NITE!!!! I’ve been super excited to try Kath’s Butternut Squash-Kale Soup ever since I read about it and saw the video and just added a few smaller twists to it. Now that I made it once I know what I want to add/subtract from it :]

I tossed a little over 2lbs of butternut squash, 2 large carrots chopped, 2 large celery stalks chopped & a shallot roughly chopped into a big pot… I cooked it for awhile until it started getting fragrant. I added a BIG box of creamy carrot soup (Pacific) and simmered it until the veggies were soft. Then I pureed it with my NEW immersion blender!! Then I added cinnamon, nutmeg, cayenne, hot pepper flakes, paprika and course ground pepper into the soup.

I chopped up a large honeycrisp apple (unpeeled) into bite sized pieces, tons of kale (also chopped in bite-sized pieces) and lidded it up!!!

In another pan I sauteed two turkey breast tenderloins (bite sized) with rosemary, black pepper and hot pepper flakes til brown.

Bowling it up… I layered turkey, with the soup & garnished with toasted walnuts.

My bowl was soup & wheatberries :]

Dessert of 2 Cherimoya & Neon Brite Crawlers…

& thennnnnn, now, Red Vines & Pecans…

ANYWAYS.

I’ve been dreaming about Chace Crawford like almost every night. HMMM, does that mean anything?

Isn’t he dreamy? *swoon* Hayden’s so freaking adorable too :]

I’ve also bought lots of yummies yet to come up on here…. like PB&Co. Bee’s Knees… lots and lots of beans (I’m gearing up for a nice yummie CHILI!!!), so on and so forth. I’m banned from buying squash til I finish what I have :] Mwahaha.. so I snuck in a couple cans of pumpkin ;]

I MISS OATS!!!! Oatmeal tomorrow :]
