This is how you start a trip in Detroit…

FINALLY!!!! My long-awaited trip to Detroit has come!  W has been here for a few weeks now and I haven’t seen him except for via skype *sigh&

Eye candy

Belly candy

This was good, the chicken salad I had was mehhhh… :P

I waited on the rocking chair at the gate weeeee..

And got the worst seat in the house. Nice view eh? SO LOUD!

Arriving!!!

Why hello Michigan… hello Detroit!!!

After giving me a tour of the casino/hotel and stopped by the two restaurants he’s working at and then we got a burger and this to go from Bourbon Steak… fatty delicious mooing rare goodness <3

Joy!

So happy to be with my W again <3

And that’s how you start off your trip to Detroit with a BANG!

Quality over Quantity… Bone Marrow Orgasms

Last night I was in the mood for Bone Marrow. just bone marrow… and while I originally wanted scrambled eggs with my bone marrow and toast…just to make it sound more complete, like a real meal, I just had my two giant bone marrows on toasted whole wheat bread…. sprinkled each bite with truffle salt – AMAZING!

Seared all sides and then roasted it in the oven til gooey with sage, rosemary, paprika, s&p NOM!

And like I said, an extra sprinkling of truffle salt when placed on the toast points – FABBBBBULOUS!

SOOOO decadent and satisfying.  Life is complete.  Usually I have a glass of red wine but I was a good girl… and waited til later that night to have some of my homemade faux sangria LOL…

Trout and Green Beans, Two Ways – East Meets West

After church and a nice brunch, I headed to Whole Foods got a few trouts and decided to make it for dinner.  Since we ate so late and so much we decided to eat late that night… so we took Didi for a walk….

I don’t get it….

Chinese Sausage, Red Onion, Garlic and Chestnuts….

Add in steamed green Beans…

Trout asian style: Garlic, Ginger, Cherry Tomatoes, Scallions, Rice Wine, S&P

The other style— “Mediterranean” Style:
Spicy Green Beans… And the trout was made with cherry tomatoes, shallots, garlic, meyer lemon, s&p, rice wine and sprinkled with chives before serving.

I sprinkled some freshly cut scallions on top of the asian style before serving.

SOOOOO GOOOD, Fresh and FILLING!!!!

I. LOVE. Trout.

Brunch at Elephant Walk

Mom has found Jesus… again. No lie. She’s back to going to church and wanted me and daddy to join along… she was really picky about what I wore too… so nice appropriate lady dress. Very mod.

But I had to wear my 6″ hooker shoes :] #stayingclassy

We were late cuz parking sucks BALLS in Boston…. and daddy had to sit down in front of column. OH the giggles….

All I could think about was how hungry I was. I inhaled some eggs before heading out but man, church makes me hungry…. and plus, eggs are never enough!  We were deciding on Mexican food, Sushi or….. Elephant Walk [It's Cambodian/French fusion]- guess which one won?!  It was late but they still had brunch WOO!!!  Haven’t been here since like…. 6.5 years ago for my mom’s bday when I still lived in the city….

Just choosing which drink to get made me excited

Mediterranean Mimosa

Champagne, Mango Puree and Peach Schnapps

Obviously I love my bubbly…. but it wasn’t that bubbly.. or cold… and it was TINY :[ WAA

We got spring roll envy from our neighbors so we had to order some too…

Rouleaux

Spring rolls filled with ground pork, peanuts, carrots, onion and beanthread. Served with fresh greens and herbs and tuk trey for dipping

You can get this vegetarian with tofu too.. but our family loves the pig so OBVIOUSLY we got the pork. SILLY waiter asking us if you wanted pork tsk.

Wrap the roll in lettuce, sprouts and basil

Without the sauce the roll was kind of bland.  Still, it was refreshing despite being deep fried.

Mommy’s Croustillants aux Poires et Crevettes Flambées

Crispy wontons layered with warm Bartlett pear and scallion, topped with natural shrimp flambéed with white wine, leeks and garlic

6 Shrimps which were perfectly cooked.  Crispy wontons.. MMMM loved the subtle flavors of the pear and the leeks. NOM.  The sauce was slightly buttery, rich but without feeling heavy.  I’d eat this on a bed of fluffy white rice. MMM…

Daddy’s Loc Lac

Sautéed, cubed beef tenderloin, lightly caramelized in black pepper, garlic and  mushroom soy; served over a bed of shredded lettuce with a lime and black pepper dipping sauce

The beef was SOOOOOOO tender – slightly sweet and delicious. Daddy LOOOOVED it.

And mine….

Crêpes Gourmandes
French crêpes

Au Saumon Fumé: Smoked salmon, crème fraîche and lemon

The crepes were on the thick side… and only half the crepe was filled :[ I like thin thin paper thin crepes but it was still super tasty.  Salmon was on the salty side, much water was consumed.

And obviously I had a side of bacon

THE BACON WAS SO GOOD!!!! Perfectly crisp!!!

Still hungry so we got dessert… the dessert TRIO of course since I’m a greedy fat kid.

Pot K’tis – Sweet Corn with Tapioca and Coconut Milk

It was on the sweet side and really rich – LOOOOVE corn in desserts!!!!

T’peh – Sweet Fermented Black Rice with Fresh Coconut, Coconut Cream and Rum-Soaked Pineapple

Reminded us of  酒酿 but with black rice. SOOO GOOD. Slightly tart with delicious shaved coconut… MMMM and the chew of the black rice… they tasted almost hollow.. chew chew chew – this was also the least sweet of the trio.

Sangkhia – Cambodian Coconut Milk Custard

I. LOVE. CUSTARD. This was my favorite. TEEHEE.

Happy. Full. Fat.  We walked over to Japonaise Bakery, bought some snacks and cheesecake… and headed home….

So many vegetables for dinner… at CPK

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood – so I slipped on some shorts and went out to enjoy the day!

Ppoopped a few grapes, and had a banana and Barney butter NOM

Worst mother of the year award goes to…

Kid hanging off the front, backwards and one sitting in the back, legs dangling.. she was barely even touching the cart…. AWESOME

I WANT THESE MIU MIU GOLD SNEAKERS SO FREAKING BAD IT HURTS

This almost makes me want to give birth, right now… almost

Bathroom had teenage girls sneaking on makeup.. hahaha

I was STTTTTTTTTTTARVING so after buying some stuff at Urban Outfitters – neon yellow- green high waisted short shorts… I’m so classy…. and anthropologie – YAY FOR SALES!!!!!.. we finally made it to CPK I’ve been craving pizza

We got a huuuuuuge table in the corner.. teehee just like we did at Legal’s the night before…

Our conversation was basically like this:
Do they have bread? Why would they have bread at a pizza place? Oh they do have bread! I like warm bread better…

My parents say I should stop drinking so much wine and beer… so I’m going back to my beloved vodka and teqqqqquilllla hahahahahhaha

Ultimate Margarita

Wasn’t really “ultimate” but it was tasty… wish it was bigger and came in a margarita cup tho….

We decided to order a salad, a pizza and an app and just share family style….

Miso Shrimp Salad

Napa & red cabbage, shrimp, avocado, cucumbers, daikon, edamame, carrots, scallions, cilantro, rice sticks and wontons tossed in miso dressing.

One of my favorite salads ever! SOOO GOOOOD~

Lettuce Wraps

Minced chicken and shrimp, wok-seared with Shiitake mushrooms, water chestnuts and scallions. Served with spicy soy-ginger sauce.

YUM! My parents are obsessed with their lettuce wraps.. they sure are tasty :] SO ASIAN hahahaha….

Vegetarian with Japanese Eggplant Pizza

Mozzarella, baby broccoli, eggplant, corn, red onions, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and tomato sauce on honey-wheat with whole grain crust.

Look at that fresh brocoolini stalk <3 SOOO GOOD and of course splathered with chili pepper flakes!!!

So good I got one to go and inhaled it as a midnight snack.

BTW picked this up at Costco… came with some other random show – combo pack – but YAYYYYYYYYY I totally rememeber watching this on Food Network.. the beginnings of my love for Tony

I finally didn’t order the Cioppino at Legal’s…

Family weekend so we’re headed to Legal’s!

I slipped on my Chloe’s… they’re old but still lovely and look new…

And first we headed to Barnes and Nobles… it’s right by the restaurant and we had a 7pm reservation.  BTW I love pork fat.

This book was so cute, almost bought it

Ended up buying these two <3

And then headed next door to Petsmart to buy dogfood for Didi :]

This pic is for W

SO CUTE

AND THEN off to Legal Seafood’s… FINALLY cuz I was starving.. I only had a spicy chicken wrap all day for lunch so I NEEDED FOOD!!

We started off with the special appetizer & two tubs of steamers!!! YEP TWO…no pics because they were devoured immediately… and I have too many pictures of steamers… hahaha… OOOOO but excitment!!! The crabs are in…. softshelled that is…

Tempura Fried Softshell Crab
Togarashi Aioli, Cucumber-Carrot Slaw, Sesame

Spicy!!! It was small but deeeeelightful :] I inhaled the pickled cuc and carrots too, SO GOOD

Daddy’s Lemon Caper Grey Sole
Lemon Beurre Blanc with Steamed Spinach and Green Beans

Daddy LOOOOOOOVED it!!!  And licked the plate clean!  He usually sticks to salmon so YAY for him changing things up!

Mommy’s Grilled Hake and Shrimp
Shrimp, Charred Tomato-Scallion Sauce, Garlic Green Beans and Seaweed Salad

We ended up trading because she loooooves softshell crab!  The green beans were perfectly done, I hate soggy overcooked green beans, these still had a nice snap to them.. and while the shrimp and hake were delish and cooked perfectly, so tender, I wish there was less sauce, or preferably on the side.  Wasn’t a HUUUGE fan of it.

And yes I didn’t get cioppino…. hahaha which I get like 99% of the time….

My Softshell Crab Provencal
Mushrooms, Scallions, Grape Tomatoes, Garlic White-Wine Sauce

SOOO GOOD.  I got steamed broccoli on the side and the huuuuge crab was on a bed of steamed spinach. SOOO GOOD, the sauce was amazing and I LOOOVE cooked grape tomatoes… warm and pop pop pop in your mouth.  But like I said, mommy and I traded – she LOOOOVED it. DE-VOURED.

And I got the wine pairing to go with it… a Quadri Pinot Grigio, delle Venezie IGT, Italy, 2010 which was tasty.

Got this for W and I :]

And instead of getting dessert at Legal’s.. I stopped by Whole Foods and got dessert there!

Most amazing HUUUUUGE cream puff <3 JOY

Sudbury Pizza Place

I had a craving for pizza the other night so mommy ordered me a  pizza from a local joint that we’ve never been to but always wanted to try.

Cheap, fresh, delish! — and fast!  Extra cheese, pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers and onions. YAYYYY – I SPLATTERED it with hot chili flakes and I basically ate the WHOLE PIZZA… – yes it was a large. And yes, I’m a fatass. But yum!

Second time having Tuna Fish Salad…

And I made it myself… I think the first time was two years ago when I wanted to try some at Panera…

Canned Tuna [in water], Jalapenos, Tabasco, Greek Yogurt [instead of Mayo], S&P, Grainy Mustard…. all wrapped up in a whole wheat wrap with Avocado and eaten with baby carrots <3 Oh happy day!

What happened to the other ribeye…

Remember steak night a la Pat LaFrieda?

This is what happened to the other steak.

LOVE.

This time cooked perfectly rare… a little over black & blue – JOY. SOOOOO FREAKING GOOD.

Eating Dinner at the Airport…

Easter ended with champagne, this drink- srsly lethal and tastes like pineapple juice, YUM, video games and then some…. ;D Good times people, good times…

…so waking up late on Monday was a given.

It was a slow morning… er afternoon… definitely hard getting up.  When we finally did we decided to stay super local and headed over to Astor… YUM, always a good choice!

Somehow W could eat his lamb gyro without it exploding all over the place, and then me with my chicken kabob was just everywhere. They have this delicious green spicy sauce MMMMMM to go with it. NOM. I could eat these pitas forever. NOM!

After lunch we wandered about and got some cool books at a used book store.  I didn’t get this but iI love the cover.  I DID however get a SUPER awesome Japanese book with creepy crazy drawings/paintings, apparently an awesome collector’s item and a great addition to my collection of randomly awesome books :D

After some lounging around, munching on apples and helping W pack and iron…. it was time to leave :[

We got to the airport early so after checking in, we stopped by Sam & Harry's for a bite to eat.  I'd been hungry ALL DAY, despite the yummy chicken kabob pita sammy in my belly...

I was actually drawn to the oysters on ice at the bar but ended up not ordering any.....
Blue Moon to start...

We decided to start with soup... we were gonna both get the New England Clam Chowder but after asking what the soup olf the day was I got that and W got the Chowder.

Mine: Veggie Soup w/ Tomato Base
W: New England Clam Chowder

W likes to add tabasco in his chowder, which is the only time he likes tabasco...  the chowder also had bacon in it so it was smokey and pretty delicious. First time for me having chowder with tabasco and bacon :]  The clams were fresh and plump, so good.

I love tomato based veggie soups.. reminds me of this deli I always used to order from when I lived in Manhattan that had my faaaaaaaaavorite soup :D TEEHEE.

And then we split a French Dip…. YUMMM… it was pretty tasty, but the horseradish sauce was a bit disappointing for me :[ Not horseradishy enough! I like it spiiiicyyyyy!!!!!  It was a bit on the salty side but the meat was delish!  The fries were pretty good too, thick, salty and I liked the greasy, extra-crunchy, over fried ones HAHAHAHA... #glutton

Great great weekend, again :D PLUS I got my first Easter basket thanks to W's Mommy :D YAYYYY

Glad I got to ride the airplane on a full tummy so I didn't have to whine and count down the minutes to get my free snack and drink.  I actually assed out reading on the plane and didn't wake up til we were about to land.  Nice nap :]
